Week 5

 
Weekly Greetings!

I hope you have had a successful fall harvest, and that the four-day weekend was productive. Our three-day week flew by before the long weekend, and I realized that I did not taken many pictures of students doing activities last week! The only picture I got was when the class was doing a silly song one morning for a movement break, and I tried to capture how funny it was in the picture to follow. You really had to be there, I guess... Every day we do an Action Based Learning song before we move into the Reading and Language morning block.
Currently the walls in the classroom are covered with things the students have made to reinforce some of the social skills we worked on to start the year. The "Commitment Wall" will remain as a reminder all year. The class also made a small poster to share what makes them special on another wall in the room. The  students "Six Keys" books are completed too, and will remain in the room for the school year to help them remember the principles behind each key.
Last week the class completed the Redbird math placement test and they will be using that to fill any gaps they may have in math, in addition to the grade level MyMath material. We will do a short review of place value before moving into the next chapter of the material.  Now that the placement test and MAP testing is complete, along with the short weeks we recently had, I am hoping we can move forward without any more interruptions to our routine.

Weekly Greetings! Thank you to those that have started sending in food items for the Food Bank. Please continue to search your pantries for any things you are not using. We still have a couple more weeks to gather food in the competition. Another piece of important information you need to be aware of is that for the next two Fridays, there will be an early release at 1:45pm. Also, Spring Break will be the week of March 19 through 23. There is a lot of additional information to share with you about this week of school. First, I would like to remind you that we will be doing more testing this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Furthermore, we will start the district writing assessment on Monday and have two weeks to complete it. In between juggling those priority items, we will try to fit in a class Science Fair project. Week 11

 Weekly Greetings! Our first quarter is officially over, and I will be contacting you soon about Parent/Teacher conference times for November 10. With the short week last week, in addition to basketball and my absence for medical appointments the week before, Halloween preparations sort of crept up on me. We will have a class party on Tuesday after the Halloween parade, and I will provide nachos and popcorn. If you would like to join us, or send a treat in with your student, it would be most welcomed. The party will start after the costume parade. On Tuesday, students can bring costumes as long as it does not distract them from the normal morning routine of reading and math assignments. During class, any masks or distracting accessories will have to be put away.  The Halloween parade will be from 2:00 to 2:15pm. It will start with the lower grades, and pass from grade to grade adding all the grades through fifth to march the halls. Last week raced by with only three days...

Week 26

Weekly Greetings! It looks like we are going to get some warmer weather this week, so the students can finally get outside for recess again. Two weeks of minus 40 below zero has been enough! With the cold and all the extra activities last week, I think everyone was ready for the weekend when it arrived. We started last week with our 100th Day celebration. Before I go any further, I want to apologize for not making my request for a snack item that day very clear in my letter. I had been to Fairbanks all weekend, and wrote my parent letter rather late on Sunday night. I had explained to the students what I was thinking, but we ended up with a few people sending in large bags with 100 snack items for each of the18 students in class. Anyway, it was a surprise and we were snack rich through the rest of the week. We are even covered for Valentine's Day this Wednesday.
