Weekly Greetings! As they end of February draws near, there are a number of assessments required through March. We will begin the MAP testing on Thursday, March 1, with the Language Arts test. Next week we will do the two other MAP tests.  In addition, next week we will begin the two-week window for the district writing assessment. After Spring Break, the state required PEAK testing will be scheduled. Some fun activities for the class to look forward to this week will be the "Reading at the Beach" activity on Tuesday. Please see the yellow note attached to my weekly parent letter. Also, I am attaching a flyer I received over the weekend about celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss.  I did not hear about the event until I got the flyer, but if your child wants to participate they still can starting on Tuesday. Now for a recap of some highlights from last week. On Monday after discussing Presidents' Day, the students made George Washington Cherry Thumb Print

Week 27

Weekly Greetings! As the days are getting longer, it sure feels like Spring is around the corner! The warmer weather has really helped with the students' energy level by getting them outside again. It looks like the temperatures will be about like last week's as we move into the third week of February. Last week, the class got a long block of art time in the new room that is set aside off the library. There was plenty of room to spread out, and the class had fun painting a Valentine's Day picture. Then on Wednesday, the last part of the day went to sharing cards and treats for Valentine's Day. Each student ended up with a spread of things to take home at the end of the day. The final special event for the week was the Spelling Bee. We had three students from our class that participated. From our class, Colten came in second for elementary. That moved him into the Junior High competition after lunch, and in the end a fifth grader took first place

Weekly Greetings! It looks like we are going to get some warmer weather this week, so the students can finally get outside for recess again. Two weeks of minus 40 below zero has been enough! With the cold and all the extra activities last week, I think everyone was ready for the weekend when it arrived. We started last week with our 100th Day celebration. Before I go any further, I want to apologize for not making my request for a snack item that day very clear in my letter. I had been to Fairbanks all weekend, and wrote my parent letter rather late on Sunday night. I had explained to the students what I was thinking, but we ended up with a few people sending in large bags with 100 snack items for each of the18 students in class. Anyway, it was a surprise and we were snack rich through the rest of the week. We are even covered for Valentine's Day this Wednesday. I will send home a class name list with my parent letter if students want to bring Valentine cards to share on Wednes
