Week 37

 Weekly Greetings,

To start with, I want to remind you of a couple of important events this week. The first is the Spring Concert on this Tuesday, May 1. There will be two showings and some students will have certain roles in the afternoon or evening musical. Your child should know what roles they have, and in which time slot. The afternoon concert will be at 2pm and the evening show will start at 6pm. In addition, we will be doing a mock trial of The Three Little Bears verses Gold E. Locks on Thursday at 1pm at the Tok Court House. For both events, the students have been working really hard on their roles. I hope you all can make it to see how well they preform.

In between trying to complete some units of studies last week, there was a Chess tournament on Wednesday with two fourth graders in the competition. They were in and out of the classroom as they advanced throughout the day.
 On Thursday, we enjoyed viewing the stars in the mobile planetarium and presentation from UAF. I hope some of you made it to the evening showings. The students really enjoyed our time learning in the dome that they are pictured in front of with the presenter.
 Later that day in Science, the class worked in groups to identify and classify twelve different rocks using clues I gave them. A number of them were identifying some before I even read the clues.
 
As the week came to an end, the class continued to work on music and get costumes together for the Spring Concert. We will have a dress rehearsal on Monday that includes 3rd and 5th grades. Our class also has a budding drummer, who will be assisting in with the music. The whole program should be one to remember, and I look forward to seeing you all there.

 

 There will not be any spelling homework this week, as the students will be mostly working on their rolls for the Spring Concert and mock trial on Thursday.

 Weekly Greetings! Our first quarter is officially over, and I will be contacting you soon about Parent/Teacher conference times for November 10. With the short week last week, in addition to basketball and my absence for medical appointments the week before, Halloween preparations sort of crept up on me. We will have a class party on Tuesday after the Halloween parade, and I will provide nachos and popcorn. If you would like to join us, or send a treat in with your student, it would be most welcomed. The party will start after the costume parade. On Tuesday, students can bring costumes as long as it does not distract them from the normal morning routine of reading and math assignments. During class, any masks or distracting accessories will have to be put away.  The Halloween parade will be from 2:00 to 2:15pm. Week 28

  Weekly Greetings! As they end of February draws near, there are a number of assessments required through March. We will begin the MAP testing on Thursday, March 1, with the Language Arts test. Next week we will do the two other MAP tests.  In addition, next week we will begin the two-week window for the district writing assessment. After Spring Break, the state required PEAK testing will be scheduled. Some fun activities for the class to look forward to this week will be the "Reading at the Beach" activity on Tuesday. Please see the yellow note attached to my weekly parent letter. Also, I am attaching a flyer I received over the weekend about celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss.  I did not hear about the event until I got the flyer, but if your child wants to participate they still can starting on Tuesday.  Weekly Greetings! Wow, what a great week we had and less than two left to go! Before our field trip to go swimming, there were a number of special things that the class participated in last week. First on Monday, we were invited to the 1st Grade to watch each student's presentation on an animal they researched. Afterwards, there were some delicious snacks that symbolized each report in some way. Tuesday started with the Student of the Month assembly, and our very own Colten Bitz was honored as the April pick. I am sorry to say that the picture I took is too blurry to add in this posting. Then on Wednesday afternoon, the class watched the first half of the high school play presentation of "The Treasure of Shiver River." In between all the student activities, the Tok ASB and district office was pampering all the staff with daily reminders of appreciation for Teacher Appreciation week.
