Week 4

Weekly Greetings!

The fall colors are in full swing, and we are already going into our fourth week of school! This will be a very short week with only three days of school, as Thursday and Friday are the scheduled hunting days in September. There will also be an early release on Wednesday at 1:45pm for teacher staff meetings. In addition, please remember to send in any book order forms and payments to me by Wednesday, so I can call the order in to Scholastic and have it here by the end of the month.

Since last week and this week have been cut short, and there was make up MAP testing for some of the class last Friday, I am continuing with the same spelling words for this week. The test will be on Wednesday and I am expecting everyone to be getting a 100% with a few extra days practice.

A couple highlights from last week are the completion of our Healthy Habits unit by making a healthy potato and vegetable soup with Mrs. Rita Abel. After harvesting the potatoes the week before, the class was able to use them for a rich, healthy, and yummy soup.
Due to the use of the Home Economics room being at the end of the day, the class had to wait to sample the soup until the following day before the morning recess. It turned out delicious, and most everyone wanted a second helping.

Another fun activity was the Tok School Cross Country Track Meet that took place Friday afternoon. Apparently, there were no other schools in the district interested in competing this year so just the Tok School students competed against each other. They ran around the coarse so fast that most of the students from fourth grade were across the finish line before I had my camera out. Anyway, here are the few pictures I did get.

In Math this week, the class will begin a placement test in one of the new math program components called Redbird. It is my understanding, this component is one of the main reasons the team choose the MyMath curriculum. Redbird is supposed to create a customized program to fill any gaps a student may have with the new standards.  Now that we have a set of Chrombook computers for the class, and everyone has a user name and password, we are ready to implement this technological benefit of MyMath.

I hope you have a great week!

Kind Regards,

Julie Brown
