Week 10

Weekly Greetings!

Every week seems to go by faster than the last, and our first quarter is coming to a close. Other than trying to complete some classroom projects before I was out on Friday, a special event for the class mid-week was art with Shauna Lee. She does a wonderful job of direct instruction, and the class got an opportunity to showcase their artistic talent. Here are a few pictures from that afternoon, and I will be placing the finished paintings on a board in the hall this week.
I hope you are all aware that we only have three days this week, due to two days of teacher in-servicing on Thursday and Friday. Also, on Wednesday we have an early release day and class will be dismissed at 1:45pm that day. I will only be sending homework home on Monday and Tuesday, and again there will not be any spelling words.

 Weekly Greetings! Our first quarter is officially over, and I will be contacting you soon about Parent/Teacher conference times for November 10. With the short week last week, in addition to basketball and my absence for medical appointments the week before, Halloween preparations sort of crept up on me. We will have a class party on Tuesday after the Halloween parade, and I will provide nachos and popcorn. If you would like to join us, or send a treat in with your student, it would be most welcomed. The party will start after the costume parade. On Tuesday, students can bring costumes as long as it does not distract them from the normal morning routine of reading and math assignments. During class, any masks or distracting accessories will have to be put away.  The Halloween parade will be from 2:00 to 2:15pm. Week 28

  Weekly Greetings! As they end of February draws near, there are a number of assessments required through March. We will begin the MAP testing on Thursday, March 1, with the Language Arts test. Next week we will do the two other MAP tests.  In addition, next week we will begin the two-week window for the district writing assessment. After Spring Break, the state required PEAK testing will be scheduled. Some fun activities for the class to look forward to this week will be the "Reading at the Beach" activity on Tuesday. Please see the yellow note attached to my weekly parent letter. Also, I am attaching a flyer I received over the weekend about celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss.  I did not hear about the event until I got the flyer, but if your child wants to participate they still can starting on Tuesday. Weekly Greetings! Thank you to those that have started sending in food items for the Food Bank. Please continue to search your pantries for any things you are not using. We still have a couple more weeks to gather food in the competition. Another piece of important information you need to be aware of is that for the next two Fridays, there will be an early release at 1:45pm. Also, Spring Break will be the week of March 19 through 23. There is a lot of additional information to share with you about this week of school. First, I would like to remind you that we will be doing more testing this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Furthermore, we will start the district writing assessment on Monday and have two weeks to complete it. In between juggling those priority items, we will try to fit in a class Science Fair project.
