Week 29

Weekly Greetings!

Thank you to those that have started sending in food items for the Food Bank. Please continue to search your pantries for any things you are not using. We still have a couple more weeks to gather food in the competition. Another piece of important information you need to be aware of is that for the next two Fridays, there will be an early release at 1:45pm. Also, Spring Break will be the week of March 19 through 23.

There is a lot of additional information to share with you about this week of school. First, I would like to remind you that we will be doing more testing this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Furthermore, we will start the district writing assessment on Monday and have two weeks to complete it. In between juggling those priority items, we will try to fit in a class Science Fair project. Last Friday, I just found out that there will be a school Science Fair on Monday, March 12.  I would have preferred for the class to work in small groups and researched their own projects, but one week is not enough time at this age. At such short notice I would like to do something so that they can learn the scientific process, and how to organize a presentation. Hopefully, that will help them prepare for another year.

As for homework this week, there will not be any spelling list as I am doing a two-week book unit with the class. There will be the usual fact sheet and a language activity page instead of spelling. In addition, I will be sending home book order forms if you would like to order books for your child. I would like the orders returned by Friday, March 16. This will probably be the last order for this school year.

Another special reading event will be held on Wednesday, March 7. It will be a simulated Slumber Party from 2:30-3:15pm in the library. Students can wear PJ's and bring a stuffed animal or blanket.  They will enjoy teddy grahams and milk while reading. The beach party last week was fun, and a break from our regular routine. Most of the students in class are hooked on the electronic reading program purchased by the district called MyOn. After taking an interest survey and placement test, each student is given a variety of books to pick from as reading material. When going to a real beach, I don't think it would be a good idea to take a computer for reading. At the special event last week though, it was very popular with many of the fourth graders. It was the Cat in the Hat day for the Dr. Seuss birthday week also, in case you are wondering about the special hats in the pictures to follow.
I hope you have an awesome week and enjoy the warmer weather.

Kind Regards,

Julie Brown
