Week 39

 Weekly Greetings!

Wow, what a great week we had and less than two left to go! Before our field trip to go swimming, there were a number of special things that the class participated in last week. First on Monday, we were invited to the 1st Grade to watch each student's presentation on an animal they researched. Afterwards, there were some delicious snacks that symbolized each report in some way. Tuesday started with the Student of the Month assembly, and our very own Colten Bitz was honored as the April pick. I am sorry to say that the picture I took is too blurry to add in this posting. Then on Wednesday afternoon, the class watched the first half of the high school play presentation of "The Treasure of Shiver River." In between all the student activities, the Tok ASB and district office was pampering all the staff with daily reminders of appreciation for Teacher Appreciation week. To add to all that, one of the fourth grade students made my day on Wednesday with a sweet picture to top it all off.
The field trip to Fort Greely went really well, and the students swam for three hours before they started to get tired and hungry. Everything went smoothly on the trip there, and before heading to the base we stopped to picnic in Delta.
Once at the recreation facility, the class heard the rules before entering the pool. A few students passed the swim test that allowed them to go into the deep end and use the diving board. They all found water toys and played games for the entire swim time the pool was opened.
After we left the pool, the group ate 5 large pizzas before we loaded back up in the vans for the drive home. Please remember that we will be going to Chicken on Thursday for another full day trip, though we should be back before school is out on this outing.

Also, I will be including one more field trip next Monday, May 21, to Moon Lake. Tim Lorenzini of the Tetlin Refuge will accompany us. Please find another permission slip with the weekly parent letter to return by Friday this week.

This will be the last week that I will send homework home, and there will not be any spelling words. We will be finishing the year doing another book unit. Next week on Tuesday May 22, I will have the last "Seasonal Readers" party after school, though there are only a few student that have returned their book logs regularly this term.

Enjoy the beautiful spring weather!

Kind Regards,

Julie Brown
