Week 40

Weekly Greetings!

The last few days of school are here, and we start off the week with another field trip! Monday will be our final spring field trip to Moon Lake with Tim Lorenzinz of the Tetlin Refuge. The students will observe and photograph any wildlife we see there. Tuesday and Wednesday will be regular school days, except the class will pick up trash on Wednesday afternoon around the ball field and fairgrounds. The last day of school on Thursday will begin with an awards assembly at 8:30 am, and then there will be field day activities with a picnic after. Students will be released at 1:00pm for summer vacation.

As for last week, it was packed full of special events.  Unfortunately we were so busy enjoying them all, I only took pictures on the Chicken field trip. Here is a short recap of them all. To start with, on Tuesday there was an art display in the upstairs of the Library from the upper grades. We took small groups up during our Handwriting time to admire the creativity of the items shared. Wednesday was our last day to use the STEAM room before lunch, and the students have really enjoyed the use of that room these last few weeks. Then after lunch that same day, the MS/HS drama group came to our class to act out two fractured fairy tales. They were very humorous. We finished that day at the Lion King play presented by the 2nd grade class.

Right after breakfast on Thursday, we loaded two vans and departed the school for Chicken. Once there, we got a short history lesson on mining gold in Alaska and a tour of a dredge that was a part of that history. After the tour, the class got a lesson on how to pan gold and then tried their luck at it. Everyone found some flakes to keep in a little glass vile. It was hard to get them to stop panning so we could eat our picnic lunch and get back on the road to return to Tok. It all went well, and I think everyone had a good time.
Friday arrived quickly, and our final outing of the week was to do community service at Mukluk Land. The students all worked hard for over and hour raking and bagging leaves on the grounds as you enter the property. All together, we bagged 17 large garbage bags and Beth Jacobs was so pleased. The class did get about 30 minutes of play on the bouncy house, and a small bag of goodies as a thank you before leaving.

This will be the last posting on this blog for the year. I want to thank you all for your support, participation, and encouragement this school year.

Enjoy your summer!

Kind Regards,

Julie Brown
